Is Your Vacant Home Ready For The Winter?

As the freeze of winter sets in, the hot summer days fade like a distant memory. Heated blankets are pulled from storage; the Keurig is working overtime providing hot, steamy, tasty coffee; and the heat is pumped up to rid the air of winters cold chill. You'll want to make sure your vacant home is safe from the winter cold so you don't come back to bursted pipes.

A major part of winterizing your home involves making sure it is properly insulated. If the outside air has an easy passage into your home it will make it harder to fight against the damage of cold weather. Be sure to shut off the water at the main shutoff valve in your house. This vavle is typically located in your basement. Shutting off the water helps prevent your water pipes from bursting. Once the water is shut off turn on all your faucets to let the water drain from the pipes. If you are uncomfortable doing this you can call a local plumber to help you properly winterize your house.
